• Sweetgum is known for its unique star-shaped leaves with outstanding yellow, red, and purple fall color. It can be an excellent shade tree in the right location, away from foot traffic where the spiky “gumball” fruits will not be an annoyance. 
• Use caution if siting Moraine Sweetgum as a street tree as it can have very aggressive root systems which have been known to uplift sidewalks, especially in wet soils. Crown die back may occur if nearby construction affects root systems as trees are very sensitive to root system or drought injury.
