Notes
  • Elms are best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed.
  • They make good street trees because they tolerate urban conditions, but keep in mind that planting an elm tree near sidewalks can lead to cracks and raised areas.
  • The wood of American Elm and its cultivars has interlocking grains making it tolerant of flexing and bending while retaining strength, but also makes splitting firewood from American Elm either horrendously difficult or a great workout- depending on your perspective.
